Nixie (II.2016). Metal sculpture. I made it from millimeter-thick steel sheet using technology that I developed empirically, evolving over the years through subsequent works. The basic tools were a semi-automatic welder and a grinder. Working on Rusalka took me half a year in total. This multidimensional sculpture contains a lot of symbolism and emotions that the viewer’s skilled eye and imagination will certainly capture. This work was the beginning of the path I am following.

Genealogy

Nixie, translated from Latin into Polish, means Rusalka, an old Slavic beautiful goddess living in mountains, forests, fields, rivers and lakes. Rusalkas seduced young men with their beauty, penetrating, passionate gaze, seductive body and voice. They would lead the chosen ones into an ecstatic dialogue or an exhausting dance ending with the death of the male.
My sculpture evokes memories of past loves and fascinations with women who were close to me. In this one figure, all their anthropological, physical, sexual and psychological features are personified.
Mona Lisa’s smile, a confident yet mysterious gaze, the tension of the muscles in her arms, impressive height, prominent hips, breasts and buttocks, slender hands, expressive lips but also asymmetrical arms, abrasions on the body, wounds… Wounds on the soul… deeply embedded, but visible in the eyes and posture.
Nixie, however, gently passes between the two vipers entwining themselves around her feet, clearly not wanting to harm them. The vipers also do not seem aggressive towards her…
Nixie is the body and soul of a woman…

Nixie, as well as later works similar in style, also became a reflection of my genetic skin disease that I have been suffering from since 2003. This disease first brought me to the edge of existence, to finally strengthen and immunize me against all the adversities of people and fate.

I have always wanted to create a sculpture using a technique that would be one of a kind. I try to avoid repetitive patterns in my work and always strive to individualize my works. That is why the creative process of a single sculpture in the NIXIE style takes so much time, but thanks to the final effect, the effort devoted is worth its value.

In my original metal sculptures, I avoid the obvious or current trends. First of all, I focus on originality and uniqueness so that my effort does not get lost in the crowd of projects of other artists or craftsmen. It is the uniqueness and characteristic style of my works that guarantee you an increase in their value over the years. The metal sculpture “Nixie” is part of this growing creative output and you can find more about me in biogram.
